Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) has entered the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings for the first time, placing in the 1001–1200 band in the latest 2027 edition. 

The Department of Journalism and Communication at HKSYU hosted the second Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Media Design and Immersive Technology (BA-MDIT) Graduation Exhibition. At the opening ceremony, the prestigious “SenseTime Grand Prize” was awarded to students who demonstrated exceptional skill in applying immersive technology to real-world scenarios.

To mark its 55th anniversary, Hong Kong Shue Yan University has launched the “Community Service Project Series”, designed to apply academic research for the benefit of local communities. 

Dr Chen Siming, under the supervision of Professor Rita Li (primary supervisor), Director of the Master of Science in Financial Technology Management; Dr Edward Tang (co-supervisor), Associate Head of Department of Economics and Finance, has successfully completed his PhD as the department’s first doctoral graduate. He has since joined Anhui Xinhua University as a lecturer.

Dr James Wong Kong-tin, an alumnus of Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) and Vice-Chairman of the Agency for Volunteer Service, returned to campus for an exchange with Dr Lee Shu-kam, Head of Department of Economics and Finance, and six students from the department. 

Dr Hu Fai-chung, President of Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU), and Dr Chow Tak-sang, Vice President (University Administration), recently met with faculty and student representatives from the Departments of Chinese Language and Literature, Counselling and Psychology, Business Administration, and Sociology.

Hong Kong Shue Yan University hosted its 36th Athletic Meet at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground, with 189 participants including students, exchange students, staff, and alumni. 

In support of National Security Education Day 2026, Hong Kong Shue Yan University organised a thematic sharing session titled “National Security Education Day 2026 – Safeguarding Cultural Security through Research”.

The Industrial Attachment Office (IAO) of Hong Kong Shue Yan University hosted the Internship Partners Get-Together, bringing together faculty members and students from the Department of Counselling and Psychology and the Department of Social Work, alongside representatives from various internship organisations. 

HKSYU held a three-day career fair on campus, bringing together more than 85 local and multinational companies across diverse sectors, including government, banking, finance, media, social welfare, retail, information technology, and tourism.

The “Youth and Sports Bureau Mainland Specialized Internship Program – Dunhuang Youth Internship Program 2026” information session was held on March 17 at Renmin University’s campus. 

A student entrepreneurship team from HKSYU, created an AI platform to collect and filter spam information. The team was awarded the Merit Award under the theme “Trusted AI & Data Science” at the Techathon+.

This year, the Department of Journalism and Communication presents the second BA-MDIT Graduation Exhibition, inviting visitors to explore a world beyond the physical through creativity and technology. The exhibition spans three key themes—Culture & Heritage, Human Life Experience, and Digital Education—offering an immersive journey into innovative perspectives and ideas.

HKSYU participated in the HKTDC Education & Careers Expo from Jan 22–25, 2026, at the HKCEC. Celebrating its 55th anniversary under the theme "Co-create Future with Shue Yan," the university highlighted its latest achievements in digital humanities and teaching innovation.

HK Shue Yan University Information Day 2025 was successfully held on 15 November, attracting nearly 1,300 local and Mainland students, parents, educators and alumni. This year’s theme, “Shue Yan Ren-Ren Battle,” highlights “Ren” as the foundation, reflecting the University’s commitment to nurturing students with virtue.

On 4 September 2025, the Industrial Attachment Office and three academic departments jointly hosted the first “Path to Teaching Success” seminar. Alumni educators returned to campus to share their teaching experiences and provide guidance to students interested in the Education Concentration.

FishGuard, the student entrepreneurship team from HKSYU, has been accepted into the Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2025. The team includes four Year 3 FinTech students and one ADS student, mentored by Dr Philip LEE, Associate Head of Department of Economics and Finance and Director of the BCom (Hons) in Financial Technology programme.

The Centre for Global Engagement at HKSYU co-hosted a summer programme in 2025 with Hertford College, University of Oxford. This summer, 25 students embarked on an exciting two-week study tour at Hertford College. They gained fresh perspectives on cultural, historical, economic, political, and social aspects, all while developing their academic and communication skills.

The Rhine-Ruhr World University Games were held from 16 to 27 July 2025 in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region of Germany, with Hong Kong, sending 75 athletes to compete. Dr. Wu Wai-chung, encouraged all athletes to give their best, enjoy the experience, build friendships, and take pride in representing Hong Kong.

The Student Affairs Office, with support from the Youth Development Commission, organised the “New Zealand Learning Experience and Exchange Tour” from 8 to 19 June 2025. Under the arrangement of the Chinese Community Services Centre, 32 Shue Yan students and staff visited New Zealand to learn about local sustainability practices and participate in community service, deepening their awareness of environmental and social responsibility.

HKSYU has once again achieved outstanding success in the 2025/26 Competitive Research Funding Scheme for the Local Self-Financing Degree Sector, administered by the RGC. The university secured funding for 14 FDS research projects, with a total award of nearly HK$9 million, both record highs in a single round since the scheme’s inception.

HKSYU has welcomed a growing number of non-Chinese speaking students from diverse religious backgrounds. Dr Philip LEE Tin-yun partnered with Mr Bosco TSIN Hingyan to develop Islamic Compass HK. The mobile application helps users locate halal restaurants, prayer rooms, and hotels across the city, supporting Muslim students as they adapt to local life.

On 19 September 2025, Professor Catherine Chan, Vice President (Academic) of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, led a group of more than 20 faculty members and students to attend the 76th National Day Gala. The delegation engaged in exchanges on the latest developments in teaching and learning.

A total of 13 students from HKSYU were awarded HSBC Scholarships in recognition of their academic achievements and contributions to the community. At the annual, Shue Yan students joined nearly 200 other awardees in celebrating the diamond jubilee of the HSBC Scholarship scheme.

In July 2025, the BCom (Hons.) in Financial Technology programme collaborated with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) to launch the InsurTech Talent Nurturing Internship Scheme. 

The Joint Department Societies of the Business School of HKSYU (AFC) represented the Institute of Accountants Exchange (IAE) in participating in the “3rd Hong Kong Accountancy Sports Carnival.” In addition to Shue Yan University, students from various tertiary institutions across Hong Kong also took part enthusiastically, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere.

Lam Chak-fung, a graduating student from the Department of Counselling and Psychology at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, completed a two-month internship in the summer of 2025 at the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta.

The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong held the 2025 CMA Scholarship Award Ceremony on 6 July during the Hong Kong International Education and Careers Expo. Three students from Hong Kong Shue Yan University received this honor.

Students from the Department of Social Work at HKSYU won the Overall Championship in the final round of the Jockey Club “InnoFamily Award,” showcasing SYU students’ creativity in using digital technology to enhance family well-being in Hong Kong.
