Admissions Policies

HKSYU is committed to a fair, transparent and rigorous admissions process. By submitting an application and accepting an offer, applicants agree to be bound by the following policies.

4.1 Equal Opportunity and SEN Support

The University is committed to equal opportunity in education. Applicants with disabilities or Special Educational Needs (SEN) are welcome to apply and are required to disclose their condition with valid supporting documents in full and in truthful manner during the application process so that the University can assess admissions on a fair ground and provide appropriate support (e.g. special examination arrangements, campus access arrangements) if the applicant is admitted. Failure to disclose relevant information may lead to the revocation of an offer, admission or enrolment.

4.2 Declaration of Criminal Records

Applicants are required to declare any criminal convictions, particularly for programmes involving work with vulnerable groups, in advance of admission registration. Failure to disclose relevant information may lead to the revocation of an offer, admission or enrolment.

4.3 Concurrent Enrolment and Change of Programme

Students are not permitted to be concurrently enrolled in another full-time or part-time award-bearing programme at HKSYU or any other institution. Unauthorized concurrent registration is a breach of regulations and may lead to disciplinary action, including expulsion. Once an offer has been accepted and/or a deposit or tuition fee has been paid, changes of programme are not permitted unless there are very justifiable and valid reasons and written approval is obtained.

4.4 Credit Transfer and Exemption

Applicants with relevant prior tertiary studies may apply for credit transfer or exemption after admission. Approval is subject to the University’s regulations and is not guaranteed. Applications must be supported by official transcripts and detailed course syllabi.

4.5 Fee Policies

  • All fees are quoted in Hong Kong Dollars (HKD) and are subject to annual review.
  • Application fees, tuition fees, administrative fees and visa fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • The enrolment deposit is non-refundable, non-transferable and non-creditable, except with the University’s approval. Administrative charges may apply to any approved refund.
  • Student visa rejection is not a ground for refund of the tuition fee or enrolment deposit.
  • Tuition fees are non-refundable if a student withdraws, takes leave, or is expelled for personal reasons.
  • The indemnity deposit is refundable upon official departure, after deducting any outstanding charges or damages.
  • Applicants should not pay any extra fees to staff or agents outside official University channels. Offering advantages for admission may violate Hong Kong’s Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (Cap. 201).
  • The University is not responsible for issues arising from unauthorized third-party payments or agent services.

4.6 Visa Application Policies

  • All non-local students requiring a visa must obtain a valid student visa / entry permit from the Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD) before coming to Hong Kong. Visitor / tourist visa holders cannot register.
  • Visa application is the student’s responsibility. The University provides guidance and support only. Processing by the ImmD typically takes at least 6–8 weeks; applicants should apply immediately after admission.
  • If a student visa is rejected, the offer will be revoked and fees paid will not be refunded.
  • Applications from nationals of Afghanistan, Cuba, Laos, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Nepal and Vietnam may not be accepted by the ImmD. Applications from these regions will be cancelled automatically without refund of application fees.
  • A student’s status (local / non-local) determined at admission applies for the entire programme unless a change of visa status is confirmed in writing by the University.
  • Non-local students must maintain a valid student visa throughout their study. If a visa expires or becomes invalid, it must be renewed immediately; the University may suspend students who fail to maintain a valid visa.
  • Internships, part-time or full-time work by student visa holders must strictly comply with Hong Kong immigration laws and University regulations.

4.7 Document Verification and Academic Integrity

All academic and identification documents must be genuine and accurate. Submission of false documents is a criminal offence and will lead to disqualification. The University reserves the right to verify documents directly with issuing institutions and to request original documents at any stage. Failure to provide them may result in an incomplete application or revocation of offer, even after enrolment.
