Professor Yang Ruowei, Head of Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, was invited to give a lecture at Tongji University in Shanghai.

Professor Yang Ruowei, Head of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Jen Catholic University, was invited to host a series of lectures on "Chinese Language and Literature Promotion and Traditional Culture" at the School of International Cultural Exchange, Tongji University, Shanghai, on 1 December 2023. With the theme of "The Transmission of Chopsticks, a Symbol of Han Chinese Culture, among the Steppe Peoples: A Historical Embodiment of Cultural Contacts and Integration," the lecturers introduced the historical facts of chopsticks usage among the Turks, Huiyans, Khitans, and Mongols in the past, which was based on the written records of the Han Chinese language and other languages, and the excavation of the materials. The theme is "The Use of Chopsticks among the Steppe Peoples: Cultural Contacts and Cultural Integration: Historical Embodiments". Against the backdrop of the hot topic of "Han Culture Circle", Professor Yang Ruowei analysed and demonstrated the spread and influence of chopsticks, an element of intangible culture, in history, and explored the contact and fusion between Han and nomadic cultures. Professor Yang had an in-depth discussion with about 30 students and teachers attending the seminar.
