About the Department

The Department of Business Administration was established in 1971. The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) programme replaced the former diploma curriculum in 2003, and the department has offered a Master of Science in Marketing and Consumer Psychology since September 2013.
The undergraduate programme not only enhances students’ communication and critical thinking skills, but also familiarizes them with modern commercial theories and practice, data-processing skills and the ability to understand cultural differences. An emphasis is also placed on integrating traditional Chinese values with modern practices of commerce.

Programme Features

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) programme emphasises both theory and practice to nurture students with a thorough grounding in the core aspects of business and management. We provide five different business concentrations for students to maintain broad-based knowledge in their chosen profession, they are: Financial Services & Planning Concentration, Marketing Concentration, Human Resource Management Concentration, Corporate Governance Concentration and i-Entrepreneurship Concentration.

 

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Digital Marketing aims to equip students with knowledge of business operations, digital marketing and multimedia applications, and to integrate them with critical thinking, innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities. Graduates will be able to develop their careers in fields related to digital marketing and be equipped to work in different sectors upon graduation, for example in retail, customer service, customer relationship management, content management, advertising, digital strategic planning, digital commerce coordination, They will also be able to pursue opportunities to start their own business as digital business entrepreneurs and consultants. The programme curriculum covers various professional skills in digital marketing, multimedia production and marketing analytics. We offer various internship opportunities offered by companies and digital marketing firms in which students can gain skills in strategic thinking with an entrepreneurial outlook. Recently, the market has a strong demand for professional personnel in areas of digital marketing, therefore wide range of career options are available for our graduates.

 

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Corporate Governance and Risk Management aims to equip students with the conceptual and practical tools to improve the corporate governance and risk management of organizations. It enables students to acquire a wide range of knowledge and skills in business administration, corporate governance, and risk management. The related courses will be taught by professionals such as experienced company secretaries and legal professionals.Students will be prepared for a wide range of professional and global careers to meet the current market demand from potential employers such as professional agencies offering accounting and company secretary services, listed companies, commercial banks, financial asset management companies, and financial regulators such as the Securities and Futures Commission and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.This programme curriculum covers professional areas in Accounting and Finance, Corporate Governance and Compliance Law, and Risk Management. We have various internship opportunities offered by professional institutions and listed companies. Graduates are entitled to enroll in professional examinations and accreditation programmes to become governance, risk management and compliance professionals.

 

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Human Resources Management – Applied Psychology aims to provide students with a strong foundation in HRM and Applied Psychology. The courses in HRM aim to equip students with cutting-edge theories and practices in HRM thereby enabling them to recruit, motivate and retain appropriate employees and build up good employment relationships. The courses in Psychology enable students to understand employees’ personality, emotions, and behaviours, and to cope with management challenges in the rapidly changing business environment.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Human Resources Management – Applied Psychology
HRM-based core courses: Principles of HRM, Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Analytics, Contemporary Recruitment and Selection, Reward Management, Training and Development, Industrial Relations and Labour Law.
Psychology-based core courses: Introductory Psychology, Personality and Individual Difference, Social Psychology.

Internship Opportunity

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) programme
Internship is an elective course for Year 4 students in this programme. The duration is 10-12 weeks (2 full days or 4 half days per week). The minimum number of hours required is 120 hours. Students can work in business enterprises or non-government-organizations.

 

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Digital Marketing
Capstone Project is a compulsory course for Year 4 students in this programme. The duration is 10-12 weeks (2 full days or 4 half days per week). The minimum number of hours required is 120 hours. Placement works concurrently with a research project. Students will work in digital marketing related business enterprises and will be supervised by a related professional and a university academic staff.

 

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Corporate Governance and Risk Management

Further Studies

Graduates of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) programme can pursue further studies either locally or overseas. They are also eligible for admission to the MSc in Marketing & Consumer Psychology offered by the BA Department, and the MBA programme jointly offered since 1979 by the University of Louisiana at Monroe (USA) and Shue Yan University here in Hong Kong.

 

Graduates of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Digital Marketing can study Master in Digital Marketing, E-Business or Management programmes at local or overseas universities.

 

Graduates of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Corporate Governance and Risk Management can study Master in Corporate Governance and Compliance or Risk Management programmes at local or overseas universities.

 

Graduates of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Human Resources Management – Applied Psychology may pursue studies in different areas of business and professional tracks in major local universities and other prestigious overseas universities.

Overseas Study Trips

In October 2018, 10 students participated in the fieldtrip to South Africa to explore the development of the developing country along the “One Belt, One Road”. The students had chances to communicate with local industrial and commercial organizations and the government to gain deeper understanding of the business activities and look forward to applying the experience to the future development of Hong Kong.

Programme Scholarship

Starting from the academic year 2019/20, iFREE GROUP (HK) LTD will make available an annual entrance scholarship of HK$1,000,000 for local students admitted to Year 1 of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Digital Marketing (BBA-DM) programme. Each year, a maximum of 50 scholarships of HKD20,000 each will be made available.
