About the Department

An accounting system is essential for industrial and commercial activities and for international trade and finance. The Department of Accounting at HKSYU trains competent accountants to meet the enormous demand from industry and commerce.
BCom (Honours) in Accounting is a four-year undergraduate programme emphasizes a comprehensive and integrated professional accounting training alongside a general education.

Programme Features

The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Accounting Programme aims at producing students with professional competence and humanistic concerns for whole-person development humanistic concern for whole person development. We have substantial course exemptions from professional organizations, qualifying graduates for taking local and overseas professional examinations with reduced number of papers, including Hong Kong’s HKICPA and HKICS,UK’s ACCA, AIA, CIMA. Our teachers are qualified and have international teaching experience. Beside, we offer many exposure opportunities to our students, including overseas exchange, internship in CPA firms, and student assistantship. The Department of Accounting has a very high employment rate – 93% for 2017-18 graduates within four months of graduation. Our students with excellent performance have won awards, eg. HKICPA QP Scholarships, Distinction Award from CPA Australia, and Outstanding Student of CPA Australia, etc.

Selected Courses

There are two streams in this programme which are Professional Accounting Stream and Corporate Accounting and Finance Stream.

Internship Opportunity

Fieldwork Placement is an elective course in this programme. It is offered in students’ Year 3 (during summer) and/or Year 4 of study. The number of working hours is 120.

Career Prospects

Our accounting graduates can become Certified Public Accountants (CPA) or non-practising members of the professional accounting bodies, after taking relevant professional examinations and gaining relevant working experience. They are able to seek employment in the Hong Kong SAR Government, particularly Audit Commission, Inland Revenue Department and the Treasury. However, they can pursue a Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Management at local or overseas universities. Most accounting graduates are now working in professional accounting firms and business sectors.
